Conflicting intentions inhibit goal manifestation! And how to avoid it

Important concept on strategic decision making provided by Timothy Timur Tiryaki

Imagine your decision-making process as a rubber band stretched between two points: your current state and your desired state. This model illustrates the inherent contradicting forces between the status quo and the potential change, highlighting the forces that pull you back and those that propel you forward.

This can also be perfectly applied to hampered goal manifestation in the case of conflicting intentions.

Picture this:
Your goal and its underlying intention are crystal clear and dearly wanted (=the rubber band pulls forward) yet your progress is sluggish or doesn't happen at all. Why?

There is an unconscious or at least unaddressed conflicting intention that wants you to stay where you are because there is some secondary gain by staying (the rubber band pulling backwards).

In his influential (and highly recommendable) book “The Path of Least Resistance” (1984), Robert Fritz describes this phenomenon as "structural conflict" inhibiting the generation of "structural tension" that is responsible for pulling creation forward.

💡 Solution:
✅ Make the advantages to stay where you are conscious
✅ Acknowledge all advantages
✅ Question the goal, even consider dropping it
✅ Seriously ponder the consequences of both options, including recognizing and feeling through all accompanying feelings
✅ Choose again and recommit to the goal (or another one)
✅ Make the first step immediately

It doesn't guarantee miracles but it can help since now the goal is much more anchored in current reality and serious intentions than just wishful thinking.

Btw. note the beauty and power of the rubber band metaphor. If “a picture is worth 1000 words”, a metaphor is worth 1000 pictures. 💫
